Mr. Michael Johnson - Band Director
A native of Gainesville, FL, Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Santa Fe High School in Alachua, FL. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Santa Fe Community College where he obtained his Associate of Arts Degree in 1998. While at SFCC, he was an active participant in the Gainesville Community Band and SFCC Speech and Debate Team Captain, where he won several Southeast Region Honors.
After graduation, Mr. Johnson enrolled in the University of Florida Music Education Department and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education with a Minor in Music Literature. While at UF he was an active member in numerous organizations including the Fine Arts College Council, Phi Rho Pi, Collegiate Music Educators National Conference Secretary and Vice President, School of Music Representative to the Dean of Fine Arts, and CMENC Student Government Representative. In addition to these duties he was a marching, music and colorguard instructor for Santa Fe High School and performed with UF Gator Marching Band as Drum Major.
Mr. Johnson has taught and continues to teach summer music camps for Drum Majors and leadership in Jacksonville, Orlando, and Gainesville for Music 'n Motion Productions. He was a music judge and Drum Major judge for several competitions in the state of Florida for the Florida Marching Band Coalition. He has also worked as a clinician for the Halftime Production of the Mazda Champs Bowl in Orlando, FL since 2002.
Before coming to Nease High School, Mr. Johnson was the Band Director at Bradford High School in Starke Florida.
His professional affiliations include Florida Music Educators' Association, FMBC Adjudicator, Florida Bandmasters Association, Music Educators National Conference, International Horn Society, Bradford Education Association, and was nominated for Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
